Swarovski crystal studded toilet is certainly an eye catcher. Designed by Jemal Wright, this is from the “Isis” range of bathroom fittings and is either fully or partially handset with Swarovski crystals – “the epitome of bathroom couture,” according to the designer. Looks a little cold to me and I can only imagine how much fun this will be to clean.

TAKE A BATH IN YOUR CEREAL BOWL ...

CERAMIC ART BY HELEN BEARD

LET THE ARTIST TALK ...

Helen Beard’s distinctive pieces begin with drawings of quirky individuals and curious places, which she uses to illustrate her hand-thrown pots. By grouping the pots together, she likes to tell a story, creating whimsical scenes that capture the insignificant yet precious moments that make up our daily lives.

Every pot is individually thrown in Limoges porcelain on a potter’s wheel before being hand-painted. The pots are decorated using a technique that Helen developed to create an effect similar to watercolour and ink. Her freehand line drawing is transferred onto the pot using a form of relief print. Colour is painted over the drawing using different washes of ceramic stain, and finally the pots are dip-glazed and smoothed down ready for the final stage of firing. Each is unique – a work of art, but also a functional piece of domestic ware.

JACOB VAN DER BEUGEL - CERAMIC ARTS INSTALLATIONS

I JUST LOVE THE SIMPLE ...

BUT NONETHELESS

AMAZING IDEAS!

Jacob van der Beugel produces architectural large scale ceramic installations and intimate ceramic groupings for domestic spaces, often drawing parrallels with music scores and other man made abstractions. He uses themes such as memento mori and vanitas to conceptualise and dramaticise the work. Jacob was apprenticed to Rupert Spira in 2002 and assistant to Edmund de Waal in 2004.

Jacob talks about his ceramics and how texture and materials enhance the organic nature of clay - Origin 2007, Somerset House

bio

Hagen was born as Catharina Hagen in the former East Berlin, East Germany, the daughter of Hans Hagen (also known as Hans Oliva), a scriptwriter, and Eva-Maria Hagen, an actress and singer. Her paternal grandfather died in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp (one of her great-grandparents was Jewish).[1] Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and growing up she saw her father infrequently. At age four, she began to study ballet, and was considered an opera prodigy by the time she was nine.

When Hagen was 11, her mother married Wolf Biermann, an anti-establishment singer-songwriter. Biermann's political views influenced young Hagen: she was "dishonourably discharged" from the Free German Youth group at age twelve, and became active in political protests against the East German government.

Hagen left school at age sixteen, and joined the cover band Fritzens Dampferband (Fritzen's Steamboat Band, together with Achim Mentzel and others). She added songs by Janis Joplin and Tina Turner to the "allowable" set lists during shows.

From 1972-73, Hagen enrolled in the crash-course performance program at The Central Studio for Light Music in East Berlin. Upon graduation, formed the band Automobil.

USA - LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULB REVOLUTION IN 2011!

"PLUMEN" INSTEAD OF BLUMEN [GERMAN WORD FOR FLOWERS!]

I JUST LOVE THIS NEW DANCING + SWIRLING LIGHT BULB.

FINALLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO REDUCE THE DESIGN TO IT'S FUNCTION AND ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF THE FUNCTIONAL OBJECT ITSELF

THAT'S WHAT I CALL PERFECT DESIGN!

PLUMEN WILL FREE THE ARCHITECTS AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS FROM THE BURDEN OF HIDING THE UGLY ECO LIGHT BULB UNDER AN, SO OFTEN, EVEN UGLIER LAMPSHADE ANY LONGER - WHAT A MAGICAL THING!

THANKS KRIS

SEE THE PLUMEN IN ACTION:

The name Plumen comes from ‘plume’ – the bird’s decorative feather, designed to attract attention to its’ prowess and beauty. We believe our designs do the same for the neglected low energy light bulb.

The PLUMEN 001 is the world's first designer low energy light bulb.
The dynamic, sculptured form contrasts to the dull regular shapes of existing low energy bulbs, in an attempt to make the Plumen a centrepiece, not afterthought.
The PLUMEN 001 works like any other high quality low energy bulb - saving you 80% on your energy bills and lasting 8 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb.
It screws into any standard bulb fitting, gives off a warm white light and will work either shaded or even better, completely naked.

THE KEY FACTS:
  • Screw Cap (E27)
  • Lifetime of 8 years
  • 11 Watt
  • 680 Lumen
  • Colour Temperature 2700k (warm white light)
  • Non-Dimmable
AREN'T THEY AMAZING?
http://plumen.com/

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW I LOOK FORWARD TO FINDING THESE BEAUTIES IN THE AMERICAN STORES!
The 110V version (for North America and parts of South America) will be launched in 2011.
