bio

Hagen was born as Catharina Hagen in the former East Berlin, East Germany, the daughter of Hans Hagen (also known as Hans Oliva), a scriptwriter, and Eva-Maria Hagen, an actress and singer. Her paternal grandfather died in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp (one of her great-grandparents was Jewish).[1] Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and growing up she saw her father infrequently. At age four, she began to study ballet, and was considered an opera prodigy by the time she was nine.

When Hagen was 11, her mother married Wolf Biermann, an anti-establishment singer-songwriter. Biermann's political views influenced young Hagen: she was "dishonourably discharged" from the Free German Youth group at age twelve, and became active in political protests against the East German government.

Hagen left school at age sixteen, and joined the cover band Fritzens Dampferband (Fritzen's Steamboat Band, together with Achim Mentzel and others). She added songs by Janis Joplin and Tina Turner to the "allowable" set lists during shows.

From 1972-73, Hagen enrolled in the crash-course performance program at The Central Studio for Light Music in East Berlin. Upon graduation, formed the band Automobil.

USA - LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULB REVOLUTION IN 2011!

"PLUMEN" INSTEAD OF BLUMEN [GERMAN WORD FOR FLOWERS!]

I JUST LOVE THIS NEW DANCING + SWIRLING LIGHT BULB.

FINALLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO REDUCE THE DESIGN TO IT'S FUNCTION AND ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF THE FUNCTIONAL OBJECT ITSELF

THAT'S WHAT I CALL PERFECT DESIGN!

PLUMEN WILL FREE THE ARCHITECTS AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS FROM THE BURDEN OF HIDING THE UGLY ECO LIGHT BULB UNDER AN, SO OFTEN, EVEN UGLIER LAMPSHADE ANY LONGER - WHAT A MAGICAL THING!

THANKS KRIS

SEE THE PLUMEN IN ACTION:

The name Plumen comes from ‘plume’ – the bird’s decorative feather, designed to attract attention to its’ prowess and beauty. We believe our designs do the same for the neglected low energy light bulb.

The PLUMEN 001 is the world's first designer low energy light bulb.
The dynamic, sculptured form contrasts to the dull regular shapes of existing low energy bulbs, in an attempt to make the Plumen a centrepiece, not afterthought.
The PLUMEN 001 works like any other high quality low energy bulb - saving you 80% on your energy bills and lasting 8 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb.
It screws into any standard bulb fitting, gives off a warm white light and will work either shaded or even better, completely naked.

THE KEY FACTS:
  • Screw Cap (E27)
  • Lifetime of 8 years
  • 11 Watt
  • 680 Lumen
  • Colour Temperature 2700k (warm white light)
  • Non-Dimmable
AREN'T THEY AMAZING?
http://plumen.com/

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW I LOOK FORWARD TO FINDING THESE BEAUTIES IN THE AMERICAN STORES!
The 110V version (for North America and parts of South America) will be launched in 2011.

MY LATEST PHOTO ART WORK

"MY BRAIN = MY HOME = MY CASTLE"
that's just what it is for me!

WE ALL KNOW THE SAYING "OUR HOME IS OUR CASTLE" BUT WHAT IS OUR CASTLE? IS IT THE HOME WE LIVE IN?
I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT LATELY AND CAME TO ANOTHER CONCLUSION.

FOR ME, MY BRAIN IS MY CASTLE - THE PLACE WHERE OUR WHOLE EXISTENCE TAKES PLACE ... EVERYTHING WE FEEL, THINK, SEE, HEAR, TASTE IS CREATED THERE. IT'S THE HOME OF OUR SELF, THE PLAYGROUND OF ALL OUR CREATIVE DOINGS, WHICH HAPPENS THERE. IT'S JUST THE MOST AMAZING PLACE I CAN IMAGINE!
WHAT WOULD WE BE WITHOUT IT.
AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT MY CASTLE IS SO EASY TO TAKE WITH ME WHERE EVER I GO. ;)

"bett tine" - "bed tine"
- as simple as it gets ...
this very light and minimal platform bed that makes a very cool statement without a lot of anything. the bett tine by designer raimund gamerith is part of the vienna design week held thru most of october which showcases the newest contemporary furniture creations from austria. the bowed base that breaks from the traditional straight lines setting the design apart from so many other beds, fascinated me most.

Philosophy

Raimund Gamerith Single Piece Furniture Design and Production stands for clear and dynamic shapes: Movement in every aspect of life, which means interplay between linear structures and organic form.

Implementing his own designs is what characterises the qualified furniture-maker, as the production process is seen as an essential part of an overall creative and artistic process.

Planning in conjunction with the Client is an important element in the creative process so as to answer the Client's personal wishes and individual character. In fact the question "What do I need?" is best answered by further asking "Where do I wish to go?".

Raimund Gamerith's idea of his work as a furniture designer is not only devising and producing consumer goods, but going a long way towards enhancing true well-being.

Another field of action includes architecture and objects of art as implemented by the group k'box (www.k-box.org), which Raimund Gamerith helped to initiate and launch in 2002.

good night everyone!

ACT NOW 4 A STRONGER CLIMATE LAW!

FRIENDS OF THE EARTH INTERNATIONAL
http://www.foei.org

PHOTOGRAPH, FROM MY FRIEND, KAITH, FROM LEFKADA,GREECE.

thanks to my very dear friend CATHRYN WELLNER, from STORY ROUTE, i came across the following video, and thought that would be a good beginning of a new week in life - for all of us. to remember our responsibilities when it comes to be aware about what WE can do to reduce the ENERGY we need to live a good life.

when i came to the US 5 years ago, i must admit i was more than shocked to see how many people went shopping and used uncountable amounts of PLASTIC BAGS. when i went in the super market with my backpack or other fabric bags, people seem not to understand what i was doing there.
... but many already seemed very proud that one could RECYCLE them, reuse for collecting dog poop. ;)

i must say,  i am a bigger fan of PREVENTION OF GARBAGE from the beginning!

in the beginning of my time here, i was thinking how terribly hard-working the american people were when i saw all the illuminated office buildings, till late into the night.

and i am still astonished when people just let their cars engine run, while they are talking to someone for 20 minutes or more. not joking, i experienced that just last week in our community.
WE ALL SHOULD BECOME MORE AWARE WHAT WE ARE DOING EVERY DAY!
KRIS

AN inspirational WEEKEND! ... or WHY NOT JUST TRY sometHing nEW?

i just stumble over a very cool BOOK, with the titel
"the HAPPINESS PROJECT" written by greTchen rUbin ;)

often in life i see people who are not very happy, sometimes
mYself ;) as well. there are moments in our life, which everyone of us knows. moments where we are not satisfied with how some projects develop, about some peoples behavior in all kind of situations, etc.
we are getting into a bad mood ... frustrated with our self, because we cannot or just don't react in a way which would be healthier for us. there are tons of books out there and people who think or really know how to handle these situations.

most of us are driven by expectations, which is the biggest mistake ever, but it is probably hUMAN. ;) if we would not expect a specific behavior often we wouldn't experience that kind of deep disappointment, many people experience in their life.

i am a strong believer of "we are not able to chAnge the world or the people around us, we jUst maybe able to change oUr SELF", which can be difficult enough sometimes! NOT? ;)

  • accePtance is the magic word, i often think.
  • see people wHo and as the truly are.
  • make dEcisions, and live with what ever follows.
  • beLieve that every situation you are in, is just wright for you at that very moment.
  • try to find out what it Is what stands behind the situation. what shall you learn from it?
  • do what you really love to do In/with your life.
  • can U always give what you expect from others?
be hOnest to your self!

i believe, what every one of us makes us really happy ...
= being AUTHENTIC!

after my private thoughts - at this moment of my life ;) -
ENJOY THE FOLLOWING SHORT video & have a joyful, happy weekend!

GRASS VEINS IN A CONCRETE WALL

ORTO LIVING WALLCOVERINGS
by studio ivanka

From a serene stand showing only a grave marker last year to a booth chock a block with the many incarnations of designed concrete this year, Hungary's Studio Ivanka showed visitors that it is by no means a one-shot deal. It was hard to decide what to look at first, but the living wall that was being watered was definitely an attention-grabber.

PURE ARCHITECTURAL POESIE!

Orto Living Wallcovering

This decorative concrete has channels running through it for moss to grow. The network of shallow trenches is based on aerial topographic photos. The plants set into the trenches allows this green wallcovering designed by Kriszta Balázs to improve the microclimate. This practical ornamentation can be used indoors or out.

I D LOVE TO HAVE IT IN MY STUDIO!
SO GREAT!!!
Beat Bloom Propeller Designed by Beat Glaesser and Studio Ivanka, the Beat Bloom Propeller is a coffee table and seating with storage on wheels.
... IS JUST SO HOT!

Untitled

2004

300cms x 400cm

This particular project was designed as two expansive walls of sand-blasted and printed float glass to be located in the entrance hall of an office and private house in the Example area of Barcelona. The glass panels are supported by a metallic structure and consist of sections of float glass of varying dimensions on which patterns and textures, reminiscent of the fragments of old wallpaper and antique lace curtains, are visible. The glass is sand-blasted on both sides to achieve greater depth and intensify the light, then printed with silver stain. When natural daylight passes through the glass, the shape of the design is projected onto the floor.
