how i see it

i am a strong believer of 'art is a "living being!"'

- art wants to be felt, experienced, touched, and fed.
fed with INTEREST, LOVE, LAUGHTER - people TALKING about it.

art

wants to START INTERESTING DISCUSSIONS,
wants to INSPIRE you,
wants to SURPRISE you,
wants to TOUCH your inner feelings,
wants to make you DANCE,
wants you to FEEL HAPPINESS inside of you when experience it or interact with it.

this and much more wants my art to be for you.

  3. Kris - You asked what art means to me, personally.....

Art wants to touch - not just be seen or heard. It's part of the artist reaching out to touch a part of you that you might not even have known was there. I don't "get" a lot of art that I see but am untouched by. I sometimes suspect that is because the artist is self absorbed rather than in conversation with the viewer (or listener).

I had this conversation years ago with a friend whose father is an artist. My friend insisted that it was my responsibility to learn the language of art in order to fully appreciate it. I felt that it was the responsibility of the artist to "speak" in a language that is universal. To find a place of connection and to "touch" me there.

  4. Kris, agree. Art is living, breathing expression, same as speech, writing and sound. We communicate mood, feelings and texture through our work. I love that anyone, anywhere can participate and learn something about me without my having to say anything.
    Love always, Cythia

  5. Kris, thank you for providing us with food for thought. I am fascinated by this concept of "Art objects as living beings". Personally, I think that even true artists don't always produce art... breathing "life", into one's work is the ultimate artistic challenge. In order to do it, one has to invest a little bit of one's own life essence into the process, making it a costly endeavor. Vincent Van Gogh once said "I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process."
This concept of art being "alive", also brought to mind the work of Damien Hirst; what about his shark sculpture "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living"??? Is it a paradox? Perhaps, Hirst is the Sith Lord of the artworld; instead of breating life into his work he is the harbinger of death?
I also wonder, does it take two people to bring a work of art to life... the artist and the viewer? If an artist paints a masterpiece and no one sees it, is it truely alive?

  6. Art is everywhere, sometimes expressed in a particular medium, sometimes radiating from within, sometimes from an external influence. It comes alive through the interpretation of another and while there may be commonalities, every interpretation will be unique. I see art in everything. For me it is right up there with breathing.

  7. To me art is a unique expression of individual creativity, even genius. It is alive, no matter how many hundreds or thousands of years ago something was created. Whether contemporary or ancient, a work of art is a form of communication and has a life of its own.
